Manatuto, East Timor / Timor-Leste

Our research team spent two weeks excavating at this site near Manatuto. Research was directed towards understanding the relationship between foreign trade and environmental change in the region. Deforestation and erosion of the landscape may have been caused by exploitation of sandalwood in the past 1,000 years.
